Disposable Clothing
Fashion Industry has changed a lot in recent years.
In Fast Fashion, clothing is a
disposable product Clothes are often worn for only one season, if at all.
Clothing production has doubled from 2000 to 2014, on average Germans buy 60 garments per year.
However, the wearing time is half as long as it has been in 2002.
Overproduction
Global fashion chains offer up to 24 collections a year.
Environmental protection laws are too weak. More and more water is used. Pollution of air and water harm the environment and people.
According to Greenpeace about 1.3 million tons of used clothing are disposed in Germany every year. Due to the overproduction of fashion chains, about 230 million new garments ended up in the shredder or incinerator in 2019. That accounts for about 10% of the clothing produced.
